Can You Change Your Own Flat Tire?

Changing a tire is something everyone should know how to do; you just never know when you might need to use that knowledge. If you follow these easy steps, you'll find that it is not that hard to do: When you notice that you have a flat tire, safely pull off to the side of the road.
  1. Put on your hazard lights and engage the parking brake.
  2. If possible, apply wheel blocks to the opposite tire.
  3. If you have them, remove the hubcaps and loosen the lug nuts.
  4. Next, follow the directions on the jack for proper use and placement. Raise the vehicle until it is about 4 to 6 inches off the ground.
  5. Take off the lug nuts and the flat tire. Replace it with the spare tire and screw on the lug nuts by hand. Then, lower the vehicle and tighten lug nuts with the tire iron.
Make sure you gather up all your things and stow them away. Then make your way to a tire technician as soon as you can.

When this happens to you, the guys down at Sutton Ford Lincoln in beautiful Matteson would love to help you out with any problems you might encounter along your way.
